Penguin Pets

“Well, a sweet little penguin isn’t going to bite your face off like a bear!” Those stupid humans always said that. It was enough to make the polar bears barf. But the humans who’d taken in some penguins were learning the hard way. The bears knew. Penguins are messy, noisy and smelly.

Meanwhile, some children felt (justifiably) that the penguins took entirely too many liberties with their toys. After many unhappy experiments in homes with small children, penguins settled most often with older, empty-nest couples.

Around cats and dogs, penguins minded their manners. It was a different story when they were with smaller things like bunnies and guinea pigs. And the poor hamsters found penguins downright pushy.
